In the suburban areas around Albany, New York, bowhunting is the prime means of controlling an exploding deer population. Bowhunters try to account for every deer that they shoot. Sometimes this requires careful tracking, and there are occasions when there is no visible blood trail at all. These are the the situations when Deer Search handlers and dogs are called in to track the deer by scent and determine if the deer is dead, mortally wounded or in fact recovering from a razor cuts of a broadhead flesh wound. Suburban deer calls  are seldom easy because numerous landowners must be approached and persuaded to give permission for handler and tracking dog to pass over their property. The rights of landowners are very clear, and a refusal abruptly terminates a careful search which may have gone for hours.
